On Thursday, while the Nigerian Army's 181 Amphibious Battalion was on a peace mission to the Okuoma community in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta, some youths ambushed and killed sixteen soldiers and troops.
The commanding commander, two Majors, one Captain, and twelve soldiers were among the dead.
This was announced on Saturday in Abuja by Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, acting director of defence information.
He said that while responding to a distress call caused by a fight between the Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta, the troops were ambushed and killed.
Gusau said that Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, had ordered an immediate investigation and the arrest of anyone connected to the horrible act.
He went on to say that the Delta State Government has been notified of the incident.
Nonetheless, the military is unwavering in its commitment to upholding the nation's security and tranquilly.
"A few people have been arrested thus far, and efforts are being made to determine the attack's motivation," he promised.
