After contacting the families of the fifteen Qur'anic students kidnapped in Sokoto State, the bandits demanded N20 million before releasing the children.
This development was confirmed by the school's proprietor, Liman Abubakar, during a Tuesday phone call with our correspondent.

"This morning around 11 am, they (the bandits) called me and told me to meet our village head and tell him to raise N20 million for the children," the man stated.
"I went to talk to the village chief about it, but we haven't reached a decision yet."
The command was still working on the students' release, according to ASP Ahmed Rufai, the state police public relations officer.
"We're still looking for the exact location where the children are being held in the nearby villages and forest.
"We're working on it, and hopefully we can save them," he said.
