Maria Ochefu, the visionary behind the legendary Mammy Market, which was established in military barracks around Nigeria, died quietly in her sleep on March 18, 2025. Her son, Professor Yakubu Ochefu, announced her death in a phone call on March 20. She was 86 years old and undergoing treatment at Makurdi's Benue State University Teaching Hospital. In April, she was just a few weeks away from being 87 years old. The Mammy Market is a popular marketplace concept designed to meet the requirements of troops and their families. Segun Arinze, a seasoned actor, has disputed online rumours that he is ailing and requires financial support.

This statement comes after photos showing him looking weak with a large stomach went popular on social media. Arinze verified in a video posted to Instagram on Friday that he is completely healthy. He stated that the images in question were taken on a movie set and do not adequately reflect his condition. He also thanked people who contacted him with concerns and warned the public against falling prey to scammers, advising them not to send money for his purported medical costs. He said, "I want to thank my fans, friends, and associates all around the world for reaching out to me via phone calls and WhatsApp messages to see how I'm doing.

As you can see, I'm doing fine. Please, I am in excellent physical condition. Those photographs flying around were captured on a film set. I'm not sure why some folks opted to cause havoc with them. "I shall continue to do my work and contribute to the advancement of my business and Nigeria. God bless you. "I love you."
