Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has stated a willingness to collaborate with Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 Presidential candidate, to develop opposition politics ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Speaking after his closed-door meeting with Obi at the Government House in Bauchi, Mohammed said he admires and respects Obi's political approach, adding that the former governor of Anambra State has a clear vision for politics and governance.Peter Obi has a strong vision of where politics and politicians should go in terms of bringing about effective government, influencing the people, and uniting the country. It is always a pleasure to listen to him because of his extensive knowledge and command of statistics," Mohammed stated. Mohammed stated that his discussions with Obi, whom he characterised as the face of opposition, covered a wide variety of national problems, including the state of the opposition and the Rivers State situation. "I appreciate what he is doing as a leader of the opposition because, whether we like it or not, he is now the face of opposition politics in Nigeria," according to the governor.He also expressed his willingness to collaborate with Obi to "close ranks" and develop opposition politics in the country. The governor stated, "I want to make it obvious that I am willing to work with Peter Obi. We must band together to deliver excellent administration, provide a vigorous opposition with vision and strategy, and save this country from mediocrities masquerading as leaders. "The time has arrived for us to stand out and act with truth and purpose. Our coming together sends a message, and my other governors support this type of collaboration."Obi had earlier stated that his visit to the Bauchi governor was part of his talks with stakeholders to address Nigeria's difficulties.Nigerians may question why I'm here, but I've come to confer with him since he's an important player in Nigerian politics," Obi explained. He insisted that in order to effectively combat crime, the government must address poverty. "When people talk about criminality in Nigeria, particularly in the north, I tell them that the true problem is poverty. "We can't solve crime until we address poverty," he said.He also stated that Nigeria should invest in education and agriculture to raise millions out of poverty and reduce violence.
