On Wednesday, Damba Dikko village in Sokoto State's Illela Local Government Area was successfully defended against a terrorist attack by Nigerian Army troops.
This was said in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations.
According to Nwachukwu, the insurgents invaded the settlement in an attempt to extract taxes from the locals.
But he stated that after receiving a distress call, the soldiers swiftly stormed the village and engaged the insurgents in a gunfight.
According to him, the army freed two villagers who had been taken hostage by the terrorist attack and neutralised two militants.
The Nigerian army paramedics attended to the minor injuries sustained by the residents who were rescued, according to Nwachukwubl.
He added that four kidnap victims who had been taken hostage in Edo by a well-known kidnapping ring were freed by the army the same day.
He said that the kidnappers had forcefully carried their victims—three men and a woman—into the Ososo forest in the state's Akoko Edo Local Government Area.
The brave soldiers tracked them down and intercepted them, fighting the criminals to a standstill and freeing the kidnappees.
One of the kidnappers was captured by the forces; he is presently the subject of a preliminary inquiry and will be turned over to the relevant prosecutor after that.
He said, "While others were given to their families, one of the rescued victims who suffered from shock and weakness was evacuated to a medical facility, where he is receiving treatment."
