In Kano, traders have been lamenting the lack of business from customers as the Muslim holy month of Ramadan draws near.
A few Kano traders who spoke with NAN on Sunday blamed the current situation on customers' low purchasing power.
Food seller Tanko Idris claims that sales this year have fallen behind previous years.
Idris noted that despite the fact that food and other commodity prices usually increase during the month of Ramadan, people nevertheless make purchases.
Perishable foods seller Saminu Dauda stated his displeasure at a drop in sales.
He said that the country's economic crisis had made things worse.
Vegetable seller Sani Ali lamented the peculiar conditions in contrary to what he had seen on the market whenever Ramadan was about to start or got close.
Ali claimed that many of his customers were lamenting their inability to pay due to the current status of the economy.
He also lamented the fact that the facts of the economy had reduced the purchasing ability of many of his consumers.
Nura Baba, a consumer, stated her particular displeasure with the pricey prices of millet, sugar, wheat, and rice. As the time for his fast approaches, he said that these prices have been worrying him.
For example, when sugar sells for over N5,5000 per measure, rice for over N3,500 per measure, millet for N1,800 per slot, and an egg crate costs N3,300, how are they expecting us to eat during Ramadan? He enquired.
He called on food vendors and companies in the state to "dramatically reduce their prices" in keeping with the spirit of the Holy Month.
