The newly designated Minna International Airport, the agro-processing zone, and the agricultural equipment will all be inaugurated on Monday by President Bola Tinubu.
Niger's governor, Umar Bago, christened the airport Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna on Friday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), former military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida officially opened the airport on June 20, 1990.
According to NAN, the agro-processing zone project will occupy about 2,000 hectares, of which 1,000 hectares will be used for green houses and drip irrigation, and another 1,000 hectares for the processing of dairy products.
Every day, Nigerians and non-Nigerians purchase half a million cattle from Niger State.
"Road transportation of these livestock is not necessary. The frozen beef from the airport can be taken wherever you go, and it will improve the value chain and generate jobs.
We are building 140 kilometres or more of water irrigation channels from Shiroro Dam to this location.
The first part of this ambitious 50-year project will be completed in the next years.
Bago declared, "We are bringing 80 megawatts of power to this airport."
Tinubu is expected to meet with Abdulsalami Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida, the two former heads of state, during his trip. (NAN)
