PDP condemns pro-Wike lawmakers’ impeachment threat against Fubara

The All Progressives Congress and the Rivers State House of Assembly have come under fire from the Peoples Democratic Party for attempting to impose Governor Siminalayi Fubara to go against the law. The PDP called the MPs' fresh threat to remove Fubara from office an embarrassment and a public disgrace to the state. Sydney Gbara, the state PDP publicity secretary, made this claim in a statement released on Monday in Port Harcourt. In an effort to fulfil their duties and preserve the constitution, 27 legislators who support the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory had stated on Sunday that they may consider bringing up Fubara's impeachment again in the future. Despite signing a presidential peace deal in the midst of the state's chaos in politics, Fubara was accused of acting illegally by Speaker of the House Martin Amaewhule, who read the text of a communiqué to newsmen. However, Gbara, the publicity secretary for the Rivers PDP, advised the lawmakers to stop troubling the peace in the state so that Fubara may focus on leading and carrying out his mandate from the people. He stated that when the 27 lawmakers defected from the PDP to the APC, their validity was still in doubt. "Those people were the first beneficiaries of Governor Fubara's magnanimity and peaceful disposition by signing the lopsided peace accord," Gbara said. "This was in spite of the fact that a court of competent jurisdiction recognised Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and it provided them with a lifeline to continue operating, as their seats were vacant constitutionally due to their PDP defect." But to demonstrate how unappreciative they are, a number of court actions challenging the legitimacy of being and requesting an interpretation of Section 109 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria's Constitution would eventually clear the air surrounding them. Regardless of how long they attempt to avoid it, justice must be done because they no longer serve their constituents. "Their acts are an obvious demonstration of public disgrace and a terrible embarrassment to the people of Rivers. Because of their good will, the people elected them, but they let those citizens down by pursuing a self-serving agenda that has worsened the state's crisis. "Impeachment threats are baseless and dangerous. The people of Rivers will oppose their self-centeredness and desire for self-aggrandizement. "They should go to the streets and ask the general public what they think about them if they want to know what Rivers people think of them. "They are operating illegally as far as we are concerned, so their illegal laws have no bearing on the people of Rivers."
