Soldiers kill five terrorists, foil kidnap of Taraba worshipers
On Tuesday, Nigerian Army troops stopped terrorists' attempt to kidnap a group of Christians who were returning from a church activity in Taraba State. Based on intelligence, the soldiers withdrew, hiding until the terrorists had chosen their targets. As a result, the terrorists and the soldiers engaged in a heavy gunfight. The Nigerian Army said in a post on X that the troops defeated the terrorists and killed at least four of them. Additionally, advanced weapons was found on the terrorists.
The post stated, "Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army have eliminated five violent extremists, foiled kidnapping attempts, and recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition in a significant operation aimed at maintaining peace and security in Taraba State." Following contact with the extremists, the troops and the extremists engaged in a brought gunfire that resulted in the neutralisation of four extremists, the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one pump action rifle, and one AK-47 magazine. Between January and December 2023, troops nationally freed 4,488 hostages, according to The PUNCH.
