Update: Another Court Orders Eviction Of Sanusi from Gidan Rumfa Palace
A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered the evacuation of Kano's restored Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, from Gidan Rumfa Palace. Justice S. A. Amobeda, who issued the order on Tuesday, May 28, claimed that he made the judgement for the sake of justice and ensuring the maintenance of peace in Kano. He also asked the police to ensure that Aminu Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, receives all of his rights and benefits. The ex-parte order read; "An order of interim injunction restraining the Respondents from inviting, arresting, detaining, threatening, intimidating, harassing the person who submits raiding, tempering with, or visiting the Applicant in order to arrest or infringe on his rights, or in any other way breaking or attempting to infringe the Applicant's rights, pending the hearing and determination of the Originating Motion. An order restraining the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Respondents, as well as all other Respondents, from denying the applicant the use of his official residence and palace at the Emir's Palace, Kofar Kudu, as well as the enjoyment of all rights and privileges accruing to him as Emir of Kano State, and from evicting anything or anyone residing within the palace illegally pending the hearing and determination of the originating summons." The case was postponed to June 4, 2024, for hearing. This comes shortly after a state high court presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu issued an order preventing Emir Sanusi II's removal.
