The Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta has verified that notorious Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, has surrendered and is currently in detention. This development occurred barely hours after he reported to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Portable is expected to be questioned about an alleged attack on Ogun State Town Planning Agency personnel while conducting an enforcement operation on his home in Ilogbo. Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for Ogun State Police, confirmed his arrest.
The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the public that Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, came to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, at precisely 13:23 hours today, February 19, 2025. His presence at SCID is related to an ongoing inquiry. The leadership assures the public that due process will be followed in this situation, with updates provided as needed."
Portable was declared sought following a violent altercation with three town planning officials—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—while performing their responsibilities at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State. Following the incident, the musician allegedly went into hiding and denied involvement in the attack. Portable sought help from both the federal and Ogun state governments to clear his identity. He also claimed to be receiving psychiatric care, but the police ignored his claims and stated he remained wanted for questioning.
After weeks of evasion, Portable intimated in an Instagram story that he could give up to investigators. He then apologised to the Ogun State government, stating that fear drove him to escape.
