President Bola Tinubu has suspended Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, and his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, for six months. The president made the news on a countrywide broadcast on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. He announced the suspension of Siminalayi Fubara and Mrs. Ngozi Odu, saying: "By this declaration, the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months," he stated in a worldwide television appearance on Tuesday.
However, President Tinubu has chosen retired vice admiral Ibokette Ibas as Administrator "to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State." "For the avoidance of doubt, this declaration does not affect the judicial arm of Rivers State, which shall continue to function in accordance with their constitutional mandate," according to the president.
