Governors were instructed by President Bola Tinubu on Monday to keep paying state employees their wage awards until the discussions over a new minimum wage are over.
Additionally, the President stated that Nigerians should not be hungry because their nation has enough food to feed its citizens and still have extra for export.
In addition to emphasising that his administration is still dedicated to providing food sufficiency and protecting regional industries for sustained economic growth, President Tinubu made those previous remarks when he launched the Food Security and Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Niger State.
The project, an initiative of the government of Niger State, seeks to enhance the state's agro-value chain on a wide scale by deploying state-of-the-art agricultural machinery and technology.
During the opening, President Tinubu stated that Nigeria needed to increase its ability to feed its population and have enough for export. He said that the event marked a new phase in the food security and agricultural mechanisation programme.

In order to support federal efforts to alleviate citizen burdens, he called for subnational governments to immediately intervene by implementing pay awards in their respective states, pending a rise in the federal minimum wage.
