Police in Abuja have categorically denied any involvement in the arrest of social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, who is well-known for taking a critical position, despite initial allegations to the contrary.
Social media followers recently spoke about the alleged arrest of VeryDarkMan by Abuja police.
VeryDarkMan's lawyer said in a widely shared video that the social media critic's arrest came about as a result of a previous petition that musician Samklef, actress Iyabo Ojo, and actress Tonto Dikeh started.
He stated that these people filed complaints with various Abuja law enforcement agencies, which led to the activist's nomination.
Young people organised and conducted public demonstrations on Tuesday to demand the release of VeryDarkMan.
In response, FCT police spokeswoman Josephine Adeh stated that the department was "unaware of VeryDarkMan's arrest" in a recent interview with TheCable Lifestyle.
She declared, "FCT police command is not accountable or aware of any arrest of such person."In addition to being noticeably quiet over the last four days, the activist is rather active on Instagram.
The nightlife promoter Cubana Chief Priest, who said that VeryDarkMan's detention "signifies a process every activist must go through," offered his support for the man.
